Concrete milling and scabbling

What is concrete milling?

Concrete milling is the mechanical treatment of the top layer of concrete to profile, level or clean the surface. This is done by cleaning the substrate and removing the laitance and any other coatings.

Milling can be done to give the surface the right visual effect as an architectural design, but it also works well as a stage for carrying out further work. Such a surface offers better adhesive properties.

Method of milling

We perform milling of concrete floor slabs and floorings to the specified ordinate using diesel or electric mobile milling machines.

In addition, we have drum milling machines mounted on Brokk machines. These milling machines can be used for both horizontal surfaces (e.g., floors, ceilings) and vertical surfaces (e.g., walls, columns). With the help of drum milling machines, we offer, among other things, the leveling of diaphragm wall surfaces or the treatment of concrete piles to prepare their surfaces for shotcrete.

Watch the video below, showing the excavation of cross passages, so-called evacuation passages, between tunnels under the Martwa Wisła River at the construction site of the Słowackiego Route in Gdańsk.

The work was carried out in frozen ground using a Brock 260 with a milling head and digging bucket:

What is concrete scabbling?

Scabbling is one of the of concrete surface treatment. It allows to level and clean the surface before further work, in the form of polishing or applying further layers.

Concrete subjected to scabbling has a rough texture. Such a surface, thanks to its non-slip properties, can be used as a floor in production halls or warehouses, but can also be used as a decorative element.

By precision scabbling with hand-held electric jackhammers, repairs can also be made to concrete surfaces.
