Sprayed concrete - shotcrete

Shotcreting is a service that involves coating a surface with a concrete mixture by spraying.

Shotcreting methods

Two methods are used: dry shotcreting and wet shotcreting. They are used depending on the expected results and type of implementation.

In the wet method, the concrete mixture is fed into a nozzle and spread over the surface using pneumatic ejection. The mixture has constant density and grain size parameters, which allows it to maintain a constant consistency and good work results. The undoubted advantages are the absence of dust, the precision of execution and the possibility of obtaining an extremely thin layer of concrete.

With the dry method, the mix is combined with water only when ejected from the nozzle. The ability to change the parameters of the concrete during the work makes it very easy to match the mix to expectations. Vertical and horizontal surfaces can be sprayed at the same time, changing only the density of the mix by adjusting the water supply.

The method is selected individually on the basis of analysis of the construction and survey of expectations.

Scope of work

The application of shotcreting is very wide. It finds application in:

  • securing slopes
  • shoring of preliminary excavations with the possibility of reinforcement, nailing or anchoring in the ground
  • repair of concrete structures by both wet and dry methods (the choice of method depends on the nature of the damage and the required parameters of repair)
  • renovation of existing structures - bridges, stacks, tanks, walls, historic buildings
  • strengthening of retaining walls
